Though He Slay Me
If we go to Psalm 34 verse 19, the Word of God says:
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
There is a fallacy that goes around by many Christians, saying that so and so is suffering. There must be sin in his life!
Not the case at all. If we go to the Book of Job, Chapter 1, and verse 1, we read:
“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.”
And yet, you don’t know of a man in the Bible who suffered more than Job, the farmer.
Remember, he lost everything - his family, his farm, his health.
He landed up sitting in an ash heap in the middle of his town, being mocked and scorned by his friends.
And yet, he could say in the Book of Job, Chapter 13, verse 15:
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
Because we are Christians, we are not immune to the tribulations of this world.
Paul, the apostle tells us of how he suffered, not only in the successes and the victories of our lives, but we have got to be honest, my dear friend, with the world.
Christians are also suffering but you know, it is through the hardships and through the tough times that our faith really shines.
It is very easy to praise the Lord when everything is going well but to praise the Lord when things are not going well, that is when the world sits up and watches how we respond to our suffering.
You might ask the question, well - what is the difference between the righteous and the unrighteous, if we all suffer?
Good question. Well, the answer is - the difference is the outcome.
Romans Chapter 8 verse 28 says:
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
You see, Jill and I have succumbed to Covid19. That’s right.
We were afflicted, 67 days in self-isolation, and five tests later, we eventually were negative.
But you see, my dear friend, we can understand how people feel who have COVID 19, like never before.
We can be much more sympathetic, much more understanding, and much more loving and patient.
And by the way, we have been totally healed and we have had no symptoms and we are praising God because He says:
”I will never leave you and I will never forsake you.” Hebrews 13 and verse 5.
So today, be loving and be sympathetic to those who are suffering.
