Lift Up Your Heads

It is Monday, 21st September 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for the day.

If we go to the Word of God in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 21 and verse 28. And The Lord says:

“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

Now just before that, The Lord talks about men whose hearts are failing them for fear. He talks about everything going wrong in the world.

He says,” Lift up your heads”

Lift up your heads mighty men, mighty women of God because The Lord is coming back soon.

You know, I just watched a movie called, “Shadowlands”.

It is the story of C S Lewis, one of the greatest Christian writers of all time.

The young children will remember Narnia - that’s right, he wrote that story and many others.

And he talks about this life being a mere shadow of the life to come.

And I want to encourage you today to understand that this life is merely a shadow.

I looked up the Oxford Dictionary to find out the literal meaning of the word, “Shadow”.

A shadow is a weak or inferior remnant or version of something.

In other words, it is not the real thing.

Now I want to tell you, the real thing is still coming.

You say to me, what is the real thing?

Well, the real thing is eternal life.

So, I don’t know what you are going through at the moment.

Maybe it is bereavement; Maybe you have lost a loved one; maybe it is just pain, physical pain that you are suffering; Maybe you have lost your work, your situation; Your business is on the point of bankruptcy - but I want to tell you something now, that we need to really start looking up!

You see Jesus said to us very clearly in John Chapter 14 and verse 2, He says, with no doubt whatsoever, that He has gone ahead to make a place for you and me, and He is coming back to fetch us very soon to take us to be with Him in glory forever.

He says, “I stand at the door and I knock.”

He is knocking at the door of your heart this morning my dear friend.

Revelation Chapter 3 and verse 20. He says, “if you open the door, I will come in and I will sit and talk with you and sit and sup with you, I will have a meal with you.”

But the handle, remember is on the inside and The Lord Jesus is a gentleman. He will not force himself on you.

So today, let us get out of the shadows. Let us get into the sunshine.

His Name is Jesus. Let us have a wonderful week together, knowing that maybe, even this week, He will come to take us home to be with Him in glory.

We are sojourners, you and me. We are foreigners. This is not our home. Our home is in Heaven.

Have a wonderful week as you keep your eyes on The Lord.
