Your House

It is Saturday morning, 4th December, 2021, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” Luke 19:5

Zacchaeus was up the tree, remember? Because he was a short man and he could not see Jesus. Jesus called him down. He said, “I must come to your home.” Is our home in a state today where we could expect King Jesus to come and stay with us? What kind of home could we expect Jesus to find?

Straight away, I can hear the ladies say, “Not yet, Lord. Not yet! For I haven’t washed the dishes and I haven’t had a chance to hoover the floors, or swept them clean.” Just like Martha. Remember Martha and Mary?

What did Jesus say?

“And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:41

So busy, trying to get the exterior correct, and not taking enough time with the main objective which is caring for your guest, and that guest is Jesus! Zacchaeus, the heathen, gave Jesus first place in his home. He received him, the Bible says, joyfully.

I would rather stay in a shack or a grass hut and be made welcome and loved, with a jam tin full of tea and a slice of bread and margarine, than to be in a palace, hosted with all its finery but which is cold and impersonal and without the presence of God.

As we prepare for this Christmas season, let us never forget the most important thing is to have Jesus in the focal point and right in the middle of our home, because if He is there, all people will be made welcome and will look forward to this wonderful opportunity for the family to be together.

May Jesus bless you!

Have a wonderful day and take time out to love one another.
Goodbye.
