Choices

A very good morning to you! It is Sunday morning, 22nd May 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought of today.

If we go to Joshua - and we know this one so well, don’t we? Joshua says:

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15

You know, life is full of choices... You can choose this day life or death, by simply obeying the statutes and the commandments of God - this will bring life. I want to say today, that we need to do things, not in our selfish ways because that is what brings death.

You know, I heard the story of a man who walked out of the courthouse after having divorced his sixth wife, consecutively, and the remark he made was, “She tried so hard to make me happy.” How selfish and self-centred could that be? Marriage is not a 50/50 commitment. No, marriage is a 100% commitment and covenant from both sides. There is no such thing as the perfect marriage or the perfect family.

Remember that comment we heard from that wonderful lady, the wife of the great evangelist, Dr Billy Graham? They asked her a question, “Have you ever thought of divorcing him?” She said,“Divorce never, murder often!” I can see all the ladies smiling. By the grace of God and our own decision, we have to work on our marriages and our family relationships.

Just one more scripture I really need to leave with you today, it is a beautiful scripture. It is found in the Book of Ecclesiastes: Ecclesiastes 4 and I am reading from verse 9:

Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labour.

For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.

But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.

Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?

Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.

And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Have a wonderful Sunday as you work on your marriage and your family. Jesus bless you, Goodbye.
