Call On The Lord

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 21st of February, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?“
Deuteronomy 4:7

For whatever reason, any time.

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,…”
Psalm 145:18

Then what about that beautiful scripture in Romans 10:13? All of us know it by heart.

“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

What a mighty God! He is there for you and me all the time. C.H Spurgeon says in his testimony that one miserable, cold, freezing night there was a snow storm and he ducked into a little church, really just to escape the storm. There was a country preacher, a lay preacher, probably a farm worker, preaching out of Isaiah 45:22: “Look to Me, and be saved,…” and that was the turning point in Spurgeon’s life. He went on to be one of the greatest preachers that have ever lived. At 21 years old, they built the London Tabernacle Church for him which could seat 10,000 people. The Lord is available to us today. He just wants us to call upon Him.

What about that story of Dwight Lyman Moody? I love it so much. The minister was telling the people a story about D.L Moody preaching in the UK. He arrived in his carriage and horses and there were hundreds and hundreds of people waiting to greet him. The massive church was packed. It was full. No one else could get in there. D.L Moody was a big man and he was wearing his suit with tails, they used to have tails in those days, and as he looked to the one side, there was a little street urchin, an orphan, with a dirty face, dressed in rags, sitting on the sun-dial, crying his eyes out. The great man of God stopped with his entourage, he walked across to the little boy and said, “What is wrong, son?” And he said, “Sir, they won’t let me into the church.” He said, “Take a hold of my coattails and don’t let go.” The mighty preacher walked into the church, down the aisle, with people on both sides, the little orphan hanging on for dear life to the coattails, walked up the steps into the huge pulpit, set the little boy next to him, and started preaching, and when the minister had finished telling the story he said to the people, “I was that little street urchin and I am now the minister of this church.”

Folks, it is not what you know, it is who you know that counts. Call unto Him today and He will help you.

Jesus bless you and goodbye.
