Calming The Storms

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 25th of May, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of Job, some say it is the oldest book in the Bible.

“Though He slay me, yet will I (still) trust Him.”
Job 13:15

Wow! That is commitment. Then we go to Matthew 8:25:

“Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

Jesus is in the boat with us. He walks with us in our darkest times. Often we think, “Lord, where are You? When we really needed you, where were You?’ Remember the poem, The Footsteps in the Sand? "Lord, every time the going got tough, there was only one set of footprints. Where were You? Did You abandon us?” “No, My son, no My daughter, I did not abandon you. Those were the times I was carrying you on my shoulders!”

I want to say to you this morning, maybe somebody is saying, “Lord, it is so dark. Lord, I really need You, where are You?” He is right next to us, and Job the farmer knew about that. I don’t think anyone in the Bible suffered more than Job, other than the Master Himself. He lost everything and yet he could still say in Job 13:15,

“even though He slay me, yet I will still trust Him.”

Why? I will tell you why, because to be in perfect peace and security is to be with Jesus.

The disciples were in the boat and the boat was sinking because the storm was so severe, the water was coming into the boat. They woke up the Lord, “Lord, we are perishing! Please help us.” Remember what happened? The Lord stood up and put out His hand, and the wind ceased and the waves stopped and the lake became calm. “Oh ye, of little faith, why are you so fearful?”

Maybe today you are saying, “Lord, I just can’t carry on like this.” I want to encourage you to rest in Him. You can do no more than what you have done. Now, it is over to the Lord. Let Him calm the storm in your life. Remember, the darker it gets, the brighter the stars shine. Jesus promised us that He will never leave us and He will never forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5). So cast your cares today upon the Lord because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). If Christ is for us, no man can stand against us.

Have a wonderful day,
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
