Cling To God

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 4th of June, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”
Genesis 32:26

That was Jacob wrestling with God. Then we go straight to the New Testament to the Gospel of Luke 22:42, Jesus says,

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

I read a beautiful account written by JR Miller who said, “We need to stop wrestling with God by prayer and start clinging to God by faith in prayer.” I remember a story so, so clearly, it was an incident that happened in my life. I was in the field, harvesting maize. I was covered in dirt and chaff, and I got a message from the maid that came running from the house to say that my wife, Jill, was coming home from school with my young son in the car and he was desperately ill. I had to meet her at the crossroads and take him straight to the hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

Well, I jumped in the pick-up and I sped as fast as I could and got to the road and Jill was waiting in the car. My young son was running a terrible fever. He had an obstruction in his stomach and the doctor said, “You need to get him to the specialist.” Well, I will never forget that drive that I had with him. I was wrestling with God like never before. “Lord, I am serving You. I am your servant. Lord, You can’t do this to me. Lord, I need my son.” I was wrestling with God and then I remembered what Abraham did with his son, Isaac. He offered him back to God on the altar and then God gave Isaac back to his father, Abraham. When I stopped wrestling with God and started clinging to God in faith like Jacob did when he wrestled with God all night, there was a peace that came over my heart like I cannot explain. We went to the hospital, they put him in a bed and I didn’t sleep that whole night. I sat by his bed and clung to God and I thanked God for His faithfulness and I said, “Lord, whatever you decide I will go with,” and you know, the next morning that little boy was completely healed, and today he is a married man with three children.

Today, don’t wrestle with God, rather cling to God and trust Him to undertake for you.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
