Contentment
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 10th of September, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We start in the First Book of Timothy 6:6-8:
“Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.”
We came into this world as newly-born babies with absolutely nothing, and when we have run our race on this earth, we will leave this world with absolutely nothing material that we have built up or gained. Food and clothing are all we really need for this part of our lives. We shall never need all that excess that we are working so hard to accumulate when we get to Heaven. Like the man who spent his whole life collecting gold and putting it in a suitcase, he said, “When I die, I am going to Heaven. I am taking gold with me.” And they laughed at him and said, “In Heaven, the very streets are made of gold!” Oh, we are so ridiculous sometimes.
What did Jesus leave behind when He went up to Heaven? Nothing material. When they crucified him, He left one garment and even that garment was cut up and gambled over. The only thing the Master left when He went home to Heaven was His beautiful Holy Spirit, His word - our Bible, and His love.
As you and I go out today, let us start to accumulate things which rust and moth cannot destroy. Let us work on being God’s ambassadors on earth. Let us sow things that nothing can destroy, and when we leave here, we leave this place better than when we arrived.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
