Don't Give Up

A very good morning to you. I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 6th of October 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6:9

We must not grow weary. We have got to keep on keeping on. Another translation says,

“Don’t allow yourselves to be weary or disheartened in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest that you have planted, is coming.”

verse 10 says:

“Take advantage of every opportunity to be a blessing to others, especially to our brothers and sisters in the family of God.”

And another translation says:

“So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we do not give up or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us, in the community of faith.”

In other words, don’t give up. I farmed actively for more than forty years. My sons are farming now and I want to tell you, the farmer that makes it is not the farmer who goes all or nothing, going for the jackpot, six or nix! Oh no, he is not the one who makes it! The farmer who makes it is the one who faithfully continues to plant good seed year in, year out, whether it rains or doesn’t rain. He is the one who eventually reaps a wonderful crop. We need to go for it, in the good times and in the bad times.

The great reformer, Martin Luther, was once asked what he would do if he knew that Jesus was coming back tomorrow. He said, “I would plant an apple tree today!” Now, in Germany, there are many apple trees. In other words, he would keep on keeping on. They asked another revivalist by the name of John Wesley, the same question: “If you knew Jesus was coming back tomorrow, what would you do today?” He said, “Well, tomorrow, I have got a Bible study with a group of people, tonight I am preaching in such and such a village.” In other words, he would keep on keeping on.

Today, just do whatever you can and leave the rest to the Lord and you will be very pleasantly surprised how things will turn out for you.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
