The Old Story

It is Sunday morning. I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is the 18th of September, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. Tell them the old, old story! Let us go straight to Psalm 78:4:

“We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.”

It is vital in the growth and the fabric of a young child, that his mother and father sit down and tell him the old, old story. You know, basically that is what the Feast of Tabernacles, in Israel, is all about. It is a national holiday for a week and the people, the families get together in the evenings. They sit under make-shift shelters and tell their children how their Heavenly Father took them out of slavery and provided for them, through a barren desert, for forty years.

It disturbs me to see young parents that are so busy they do not have time to sit with their children and tell them about Jesus and about the principles of life. I often see a young mother, and I am not blaming her, so busy, she gives the child a cellphone and let's them amuse themselves with computer games... just to keep them quiet. It's dangerous because there is no interaction - We need to talk to our children and we need to warn them. We need to instruct them. Acts 20:31, Paul says to the children of Israel, before he leaves, he says:

“Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.”

He goes on to talk about savage wolves that are coming in to try and break down the children of God. We have to speak to one another. You know, that is one thing I thank God for... My mother was a wonderful storyteller. She would sit for hours with me and my siblings telling us about her life - How she grew up in Scotland, what happened to her during the Second World War when she was in the air force, and how she managed to overcome things in her life. What it did was prepare us for when we went out into the world. Sit down and talk to your children, talk to your loved ones - Grand-dads talk to your grandchildren, they want to know the real story of how Jesus Christ has impacted your life.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy this Sunday, sit together and talk about the goodness of God.

Jesus bless you and goodbye.
