Strike of a Match

I greet you in Jesus’s precious name! It is Wednesday, 20th July, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go straight to Psalm 85, I am reading from verse 6:

“Will You not revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?
Show us Your mercy, Lord,
And grant us Your salvation.

I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace
To His people and to His saints;
But let them not turn back to folly.
Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
That glory may dwell in our land.”

This is undoubtedly our finest hour - God forbid that we would turn back to folly. (Folly means foolishness).

“O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years!”

Habakuk 3:2

It is dependent on the saints, not the unbeliever or the heathen. I am talking about revival - that is what we need. Not only South Africa but the whole world. You cannot revive something that is dead, Jesus this morning is talking to His people.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

We need to pray. We need to pray for the unbeliever and the backslider, we need to pray for the lukewarm Christian. Mom, dad, we need to pray for our prodigal children - it is time for them to come back home. The match is about to be struck. I have a little fireplace in my prayer-room. It is very cold in South Africa at the moment and sometimes when I try to start a fire, the kindling is a bit damp and the fire smoulders, it smokes. But when I take a single match, strike it and throw it on top of that smouldering wood, all of a sudden it bursts into almighty flame... That is what is about to happen in our world. Christian, it is time to stand up.

John Wesley was instrumental in starting one of the biggest revivals the world has ever known and he said:

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
