Pray

A very good morning to you. I greet you in Jesus' name. It is Thursday morning, the 21st of July, 2022. And this is your friend Angus Buchan with a thought for the day.

If we go to the book of James in the new Testament, chapter five, I'm reading from verse 14:

"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him. Anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord and the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

Do you hear how many times the word prayer comes into those two scriptures? I want to tell you, without the prayer of faith nothing will happen. You see God doesn't answer prayer, He answers the prayer of faith. When we pray we need to believe that God has heard our prayers and that He will answer them. Now I want to tell you a story about George Muller.

George Muller was that German who went to Bristol, England in the 1800s. He started a children's home by faith, never asked for a penny. When he had a need, he prayed - it became his lifestyle. He was invited across to America and on the ship, in the middle of the night, there was a heavy, heavy mist. Eventually the captain stopped the ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. George Muller, being a proper German and a timekeeper, came up from his cabin onto the bridge and asked the captain: "Captain, why is the ship stopped? I have an appointment tomorrow in America." The captain said, "There's so much mist. We can't see where we are going and there are icebergs in the sea. We are afraid that we might hit one of them." So George Muller asked him a question: "Have you prayed about the matter?" And he looked at George Muller (and by the way this story was told by the captain himself) as if this old man had lost his marbles.

He said, "No, we haven't." Muller said, "Well, can you come down to my cabin and let's pray about it and let's ask the Lord to move the mist so that I can make my appoint." So the captain went down to George Muller's cabin. They went into the cabin, got on their knees and George Muller started to pray. When he had finished praying the prayer of faith he opened his eyes, the ship's captain was about to pray and he tapped him on the shoulder. He said, "Look, you don't have to pray because you don't believe it anyway, by the way, the mist has already lifted, let's go." They walked out the cabin up onto the bridge and the mist was gone. The ship continued on its journey and George Muller was not late for his appointment.

I want to encourage you today. Pray about every single thing that you need to do and give the Lord an opportunity to help you.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
