Listening to People

A very good morning to you, I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, 2nd August, 2022 and this is your friend Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea.”

Acts 11:29

They had heard about a worldwide famine and so they sent relief to Judea. You know that old adage, “In order for evil to abound, all good people have to do is nothing.” The disciples heard about the terrible famine and got stuck in - they rolled up their sleeves and helped. Don’t only tell people that you love Jesus but show them that you love Him. Remember, faith is a doing word... Faith has got feet! We need to put our action where our mouths are sometimes. Jesus said:

“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”

Matthew 25:40.

We must be careful that we do not become so spiritually minded that we are of no earthly use. As Christians, we need to get out there, we need to get out into the marketplace. We need to keep in touch with the 'man on the street' to find out what is happening at ground level.

Last week after church, my wife, Jill and I we went down to Pietermaritzburg, a town close to us. There was a bee-keeping show and it was just so refreshing for me just to walk about and listen to ordinary people. Talking not only about making honey and building hives but about life in general. Yes, the ups and the downs... Someone, right now, might be saying, “Well, I don’t have anything to contribute.” I want to tell you, you do. Have you ever tried just listening to people? Everybody has a story to tell. I listened to many, many stories. I did no preaching - I went incognito. I went with my dear wife and we just listened to people sharing their hearts, some happy, some sad, some talking about loved ones who have gone home to be with the Lord and others talking about new exploits they were going to undertake. It was so beautiful!

Try it today. Get out there and start helping people because we have a famine in our land at the moment... And it is controlled by things like depression, anxiety, fear and stress. People need to be loved, go out and love them.

Have a wonderful day in Jesus name.
Goodbye.
