Fearfully And Wonderfully Made
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, the 10th of February, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 139:13-14
What a beautiful scripture!
Then Philippians 4:13, which we all know so well:
“I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.”
We say that very glibly sometimes. It's a very serious scripture verse. “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.” There is no darkness in the Lord. If you look at verse 12, it says: “The darkness and the light are both alike to You.” So the Lord doesn’t see darkness or light because He is God and He created them both.
I want to say to you today, maybe you are feeling a bit down, maybe your business has gone bankrupt, maybe you have lost your job, or maybe you are just feeling totally inadequate. Oh, my dear friend, you and I have been fearfully and wonderfully made by the Lord and we can by His grace, do all things through Him who created us.
I don’t know if you have heard of a very famous lady by the name of Helen Keller. At 19 months old she became very sick and as a result, she was blind and deaf. Can you think of anything worse? She was totally blind and deaf. She had no communication with the world. It is like somebody put you in an iron box and closed the lid. That is how it was. There was no communication. But a lady by the name of Ann Sullivan started to work with her and this is what I am trying to say to you - God has made us in His image. Helen Keller said that the greatest glory in living lies not in never falling but in rising every time we fall. That woman died at 87 years old, deaf and blind. Well, how did people communicate with her? Ann Sullivan started to use what they call finger spelling, making impressions on her hand and eventually got her out of that iron box. The first word that this woman ever spoke, a woman who couldn’t hear and couldn’t see, the first word she used was, “water” because she said, she felt it flowing over her hand. She got a college degree. She was one of the USA’s greatest ambassadors. She got the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She travelled to 25 countries as a motivational speaker.
We can do it, but not in our own strength - only in God’s strength. My headmaster told my mother when I was at school, “Take him out of school because he won’t do much more here.” I didn’t know Jesus, but when I met Him, well - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and so can you. Have a wonderful day and remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Jesus bless you and goodbye!
