Growing Old

It is Friday morning. I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is the 9th of September 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
Do not forsake me when my strength fails.”
Psalm 71:9

“Now also when I am old and grayheaded,
O God, do not forsake me,
Until I declare Your strength to this generation,
Your power to everyone who is to come.”
Psalm 71:18

Do not resent growing old. Many are denied the privilege. This is a word for someone today who is so upset because they are older and can’t do what they used to do before. Many have never had the privilege of growing old.

Even as I am speaking to you today, I thank the Lord for my grandchildren. I thank the Lord for the young people that I have the privilege of being with. Many of my friends have gone home to be with Jesus and have never even seen their grandchildren. We must be very careful. We must be grateful that God has spared us these years. I love sitting in the company of young people and listening to all their future plans, and expectations. Man, it makes me feel young! After all, age is just a number, isn’t it?

The First Nation people in the United States of America, have got a saying that goes like this, “When an old person dies it is like a library that is burned down.” Young people, listen carefully, instead of having to learn the hard way, paying expensive school fees of blood, sweat, tears, and regrets - rather just go and sit with that old dear, and have a cup of tea, or a cup of coffee with them. They are waiting for you, they are not in any rush, and let them show you the easier way home. Remember, they have walked this way before and they know the way. Also, be patient with older people. You know, growing old is not for sissies! They are carrying a lot of aches and pains, of which they will not tell you, but they picked them up on that road. Be patient and understanding with them.

As an older man, I only have one regret in life and that is that it took me 32 years to find The Way, and His name is Jesus.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6

Have a wonderful Friday.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
