The Plumb Line

If we go to that very well-known scripture in Psalm 119:105:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”

Our ultimate direction finder is God’s Holy Word. I am sitting in my prayer room sending you this message and above my desk, hanging from the roof is a plumb line. Now that is used by builders to make sure, when they build a wall, that it is completely straight - a direction finder. And on my table, I have a compass. A gift, given to me by some very dear people... it shows me True North. Nothing can change that.

Like never before people are confused. People are writing to our office and asking us questions like: Do we or don’t we? What does the word say about this and what is your opinion about that? I want to say to you never take notice of my opinion or anybody else’s opinion for that matter. It is what the Word of God says.

Meshach, Shadrack and Abednego were told to bow the knee to Nebuchadnezzar. They said, “We will not bow the knee to Nebuchadnezzar or to any other god. And by the way, even if our God does not save us we are still not going to bow the knee to you!” Now that is the kind of faith that Jesus is looking for in these last days.

“But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”
Daniel 3:18

That is the kind of faith that we need today because many people are confused. Our answer, when they write to us at the office to “What should we do?” is, “Go to the Word of God." That’s right - the compass, the plumb line, the direction finder... you will find your answer in the Bible.

You know, one of Jesus’s disciples, Thomas asked Jesus the very same question. “Lord, where are you going? and “We don’t know how to find the way.” And Jesus used that beautiful scripture, John 14:6:

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

What I love about the Lord Jesus Christ is His answers are always definite. They are straightforward and they are confident.

I have a very special memory of when my oldest son got married. On his wedding day, at the reception, everybody was seated and it was time for the bridegroom to make his speech. He stood up and he quoted Joshua 24:15, where Joshua says,

“You serve whoever you want to serve but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Have a wonderful day as you go out today, confidently knowing that Jesus is the answer to every single question that you have.

God bless you and goodbye.
