Never Give Up

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name. It is Tuesday morning, it is the 13th of December, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

Never, ever give up! Galatians 6:9 says if you do not grow weary in doing good, in due season, you will reap if you do not lose heart.

“And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
2 Kings 2:9

What a request! I have got written in the margin of my Bible, right next to that scripture, “Persistence always pays off.” Elijah, the Tishbite, is my hero in the Old Testament, but I want to tell you that Elisha performed exactly double the number of miracles that Elijah performed. Why? Because he did not give up. How do you cover a journey of a thousand miles? One step at a time. How do you climb a mountain? One step at a time. What do they say to the young people, “How do you eat an elephant?” One mouthful at a time.

But seriously, I want to say to you today that maybe there is a young person who says, “I have just failed my year at university and I don’t know what to do."" Maybe there is a young guy at school who says, “I have just failed my exams. I want to give up.” Never, ever give up! Some of the most intelligent, brightest people in the world were hopeless at school. One of them was Winston Churchill. His father back-handed a school to keep him in the school. I want to say to you today, “Keep on keeping on and you will get there.”

Now, today is a very special day for me. I want to take this opportunity - and I don’t do this, I have never done this before, but I want to thank you for listening to Thought for Today. I want to thank you for your prayers and your love which have kept me going. Do you know that today is 1000 days of the Thought for Today, without breaking one day, without missing one day, and all the glory, all the honour, goes to the Lord Jesus Christ. Many a time I have woken up in the morning and I have said, “Lord, the tank is empty. I don’t know what to say!" I go to the word of God, I open up the Bible and Jesus gives me the message.

I want to say to you today that we need to keep going forward. Don’t look behind you. No man having put his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God. (Luke 9:62). I can hear some person saying, “Now, Angus is that the end?" No, it is not! When are you going to stop? When Jesus tells me and not a day before and not a day after, I want to tell you it is a great honour and a privilege to meet with you every single morning.

Have a very blessed day today.
God bless you and goodbye.
