Prayer

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 17th of May, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“…He hears the prayer of the righteous.”
Proverbs 15:29

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.”
Psalm 145:18

He hears the prayers of the righteous! Now prayer is simply talking with God, isn’t it? If we look at 1 Thessalonians 5:17, the word of God tells us to pray without ceasing. We pray while we are driving in the motorcar, we pray while we are ploughing in the field, and we pray while we are flying in an aeroplane. It is a lifestyle.

One of the most precious prayers I remember so clearly, was when I gave my life to Christ. The day after the meeting, we were sitting in a circle, like a little Bible study, and all of us were so new in the Lord, we were so shy. We didn’t really want to pray out loud because we didn’t know how to! There was an old gentleman there and I could see that he had a major drinking problem, but he had met the Man from Galilee, and this is how his prayer went, “Help me, God.” That's all he said with tears running down his face. I don’t think there was a dry eye there. “Help me, God,” and the Lord did help him.

I looked up the Oxford Dictionary to find out the literal meaning of the word, “Prayer.” It is a request for help or an expression of thanksgiving. Now, I want to read you a farmer’s prayer that I found, very simple, this is how it goes:

Lord, bless the land that You've given me,
And may I always know
As I tend each crop and creature
You're the One who helps them grow.

Grant me the strength and wisdom
Please protect me from harm,
And thank You
For Your gracious gift-
The blessing of a farm.

Heavenly Father, I want to thank You for my friends that are listening to this Thought for Today every morning. My prayer for them today, Lord, is that they will increase their time spent talking with You, that they will get to know You better, and that they will understand that You are literally one prayer away. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a wonderful day,
God bless you and goodbye.
