Renew Your Mind
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 27th of December, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,…”
Romans 12:2
Another translation says,
“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His eyes.”
Romans 12:2
We must resist the evil pressures of this world so that we can discern God’s will for our lives. Just because every other person is doing it, that does not make it right. The battle is not in the flesh, the battle is for the mind.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (that means fleshly) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,…”
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
You see, what you think is what you become. Do not be sucked into second best by the culture around you. It is just like eating junk food. Junk food might taste nice but it is not good for your physical body. Discipline your mind with what you read and with what you watch. Most of all, we need to really slow down. Satan wants us to be so busy that we don’t have time to rest or renew our minds. We need to think.
I picked up a little story that I found which was written many years ago. It goes like this: Satan called a worldwide convention. In his opening address to his evil angels, he said, “We can’t keep the Christians from going to church. We can’t keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth. We can’t even keep them from conservative values but we can do something else - we can keep them from forming an intimate, abiding experience in Christ. If they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken. So let them go to church, let them have their conservative lifestyles, but steal their time so they cannot gain that experience in Jesus Christ. This is what I want you to do, distract them from gaining hold of their Saviour and maintaining that vital connection throughout the day.”
Spend time with Jesus!
God bless you and goodbye.
