No Turning Back

It is Saturday morning, 18th June 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:62

As a farmer, if I keep looking behind me to see whether the plough is deep enough into the soil I'll lose my direction. Instead of ploughing a straight line, it'll look like a snake by the time the field is finished. We have got to look forward and put the past behind us. I heard a beautiful saying: “Beware of recalling an earlier period in your life. Beware of harking back to what you once were when God wants you to be something you have never been.” (Oswald Chambers). That’s quite powerful. Be careful that you don’t look backwards and only talk and think about the old times, when you should be moving ahead and breaking new ground.

In 2010 I experienced something on this farm that I shall never forget as long as I live. I saw with my own carnal eyes, a sight that brings tears to my eyes just recalling it. Approximately four hundred and fifty thousand men, heads of homes, CEOs of companies, famous sportsmen and leaders, all came to this farm to join together to hear the Word of God. I will never forget, standing on that platform, I saw the people going right out of my sight - I couldn’t see the end of the crowd. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life. They didn’t come for just one hour, they were here for a full weekend, some of them coming on the Wednesday and only leaving the following Wednesday. God said to me, almost audibly, “This is going to be the last one. You must pass on the baton to the younger men so they can do it all over the world.” It was extremely hard for me, a lot of people wrote to me and said, “What are you doing? Why are you stopping the revival, this is something we have never seen anywhere in the world before.” But the Lord gave me a clear word to pass the baton on, which I duly did.

And what happened? There are Mighty Men Conferences taking place all over our beloved nation of South Africa and indeed the whole world - the United States of America, Ireland, England, New Zealand, Australia, Nigeria and Namibia. Why? Because it is time to move forward.  

Today, don’t hold onto the past, let it go. God has new plans for you.
