The One Who Calms The Storms

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 29th of November, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.”
Psalm 107:29

“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”
Mark 4:39

What storm are we facing in our lives today? Have we taken our eyes off the Master, the Master of the wind and rain, and have we maybe focused on the huge waves and storms in our lives? Many years ago, when I had just started farming, I had a small little maize planter. I had to plant a very, very large crop of corn or maize and I had not calibrated the planter correctly. When the maize started germinating, I realized we had huge gaps in the rows and a very low plant population. It was so sparse that early in the morning I could walk through the maize crop without getting any early morning dew on my clothes, and the devil told me, almost audibly every single day, “You are done. You will get no crop because you have planted no maize.”

I was very worried. I even started getting quite depressed and every day I would drive around that crop in my pick-up and I just looked at these huge gaps. You see, I was looking at the waves, I was looking at the storm and I was not looking at Jesus.

Then early one morning as I was driving around the crop, the Holy Spirit impressed upon me to stop looking at the gaps in the rows and start looking at the cobs on the plants, I looked at them, and they were huge - huge cobs with massive weighty kernels! You see, what happened was, because of the gaps, the maize cobs were just getting bigger and bigger because the fertilizer was there. But you see, that year I didn’t know and neither did anybody else, but we had a terrible drought. If I had planted the correct plant population, those plants wouldn’t have produced any cobs. That year we got a very good yield in terms of weight. We get paid by weight, not by volume!

I want to say to you today, take your eyes off the waves and the storm, and put your eyes on the One who calms the storm so that its waves are still. You will see the outlook will be totally different. He will not leave you, He will not forsake you. He has promised us that in Hebrews 13:5.

Have a wonderful day.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
