The Passenger Seat

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 29th of April, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. 

“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?”  
Galatians 3:2

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,…”
Ephesians 2:8  

Then a scripture which is like dynamite, it is like an atom bomb! - Romans 1:17:

“The just shall live by faith.”

I want us to ask ourselves a question this morning. Why are you back in the driving seat? Did you honestly think that you could do a better job than Jesus? Why have we forsaken our first love? You will find that in Revelation 2:4. The Lord has said, “You started so well, you gave it all to Me. Why are you taking it back again and trying to work yourself to Heaven by good works?” Why are we so busy doing good works for God? Have we forgotten that He is the one that saved us? Remember, when we were perishing, when we said, “Lord, I can’t take this anymore, I can’t go on anymore”, we handed all our cares over to Him, didn’t we, and He took care of us? And now, we are back in the driving seat again.

You know, Martin Luther was a Roman Catholic monk and was very passionate for God. He was trying to work his way to Heaven by bringing his flesh under subjection but he failed miserably. He was trying to work his way to Heaven and then he discovered this little scripture, this little pocket battleship, this dynamite, Romans, 1:17, “The just shall live by faith”, and that liberated him completely. You see, this life, my dear friend, is not about us, it is about Jesus in us and that is what we have to concentrate on.  

You know, I will never forget when I first gave my life to the Lord. Oh, I was so burdened. I was worried about Jill, I was worried about my five little children, I was worried about the farm, I was worried about the hail that was going to destroy the crop in an instant and then about what was going to happen, and then one day I was walking through my maize crop, my green cathedral, and the penny dropped. I realised I had given my life to Jesus, so it is all over to Him! I am in the passenger seat. He is driving this vehicle for me. If the crop got wiped out by hail, then the Lord has got another plan for me! I am not going to worry anymore.

Today, get back in the passenger seat and let Him drive your vehicle.
