Unseen Kindness

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 28th of July, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in Proverbs 28:14, which says: '

Happy is the man who is always reverent,…"

"…always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all."
Thessalonians 5:15

Unseen kindness, doing things that you don't necessarily get a reward for - that is what God is looking for. He is looking for servants' hearts. Serving God and our fellowman brings such joy into people's lives and our own lives. I remember hearing about Kathryn Kuhlman, the woman God used with a tremendous healing ministry, saying, "If you feel sick, go and find somebody who is sicker than you, pray for them, and you won't feel so sick after that." Like the good farmer, keep sowing good seed, and eventually, you shall reap a good crop if you keep on persevering. We know that scripture so well that compliments that statement, and that is found in Galatians 6:9:

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

Acts of unseen kindness are what God is requiring from you and me today in this sad world which seems to be so self-centred. I heard a beautiful story once about an old gentleman who used to carry an oil can in his pick-up, whenever he came to a farm gate, and it was squeaking when he opened the gate, he would take out his oil can and oil the hinges. Nobody saw him, not even the farmer, but he did it because he felt it was a good thing to do. Do you know what joy it brings into your heart when you do something and know that it will benefit somebody else, especially when nobody knows that you are doing it? Even now, as I am sharing this story with you, it brings back memories of when I was a little boy, maybe 7 or 8 years old. My little brother would have been 6 years old, and we used to walk to school every morning with our satchels on our backs, and it was a fair walk. There was an old man who used to come with his old pick-up, I will never forget it, and he would stop and give us a lift to school. When I got into that pick-up, I could smell the smoke of his pipe. He used to smoke a pipe, and he would greet us. He was a sunburnt man, he worked outdoors, and he would take us all the way to school. I have never forgotten that.

Today, be zealous for Jesus and do somebody some good without them even knowing it, and you will see how happy your heart will be.

Have a wonderful day,
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
