This Bible

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name on this beautiful Sunday morning, 16th October and the year 2022. This is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

A man of God said, “Answer the big question on eternity and then all the little questions of life will fall into perspective. If we go to Jeremiah 33:3, the Lord says:

“‘Call unto Me, and I will answer you”

So that is what we are doing this morning! We are calling unto the Lord and what does He say... Well, He says, in Matthew 6:33:

“But seek first” (there’s the big question)  the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these (other) things shall be added to you.” Isn’t that beautiful?

And then John 1:1:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  

So who is the Word? The Word is Jesus! And so the big question is very simple... Do we believe that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God? Is it Jesus in print, as we always say? If you say, “Yes, I believe that”, the big question has already been answered. Then the smaller questions fall into place. If you start to question the authority of the Bible, you are in big trouble. Some people have told me, clergymen I am talking about will say, “No, we don’t take the Bible literally. It is just a broad kind of line like a direction but we can’t take it as gospel.”  

I want to tell you something, for what it is worth, coming from an old farmer - This Bible, from Genesis right through to Revelation, I believe... has been written by men, under the influence of the Holy Spirit. This Bible is Jesus Christ in print and I have been following the instruction of this book and finding out the answer to the big question for no less than forty three years. Not once have I found a discrepancy. Not once have I found a mistake. I want to tell you today dear friend, if you take this book literally and live according to it, all other things troubling you (maybe a marital affair; maybe a relationship with your son or your dad; maybe a relationship at work; maybe what you are watching on television and hearing in the news), that the Word of God is accurate and never, ever makes a mistake. So seek the Lord, that’s right, and the answer to the big question is in the Bible.  

Jesus Christ is Lord and Jesus Christ is coming back again and Jesus Christ is going to take you and me to Heaven, to be with Him forever. In the meantime, just keep your eyes fixed on HIm.
