Come to Me...
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name. It is Monday morning, 17th October, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today. If we go to Matthew 11:28, Jesus says:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Come to Me! The Lord wants to have fellowship with you. He wants to sit quietly with you, He wants to love you, He wants to direct you. He just wants to have time with you because He loves you.
I remember it like yesterday, when I met my dear wife, Jill. We have been married now for just on fifty years - I remember when I was courting her. I didn’t have to take her to a 5 star restaurant for a six course meal with waiters dressed in black tuxedoes. No, I didn’t have the money anyway. I was a learner farmer but I would take her, in my clapped out pick-up, down to the Milky Lane to buy her an ice-cream. We’d go and sit in the park and eat our ice-cream and just sit there and look at each other. We wouldn’t even talk. I know many of you are smiling as you are listening to this because you know exactly what I am speaking about... That’s love!
That is what Jesus wants. He wants a relationship with us. He is saying to you today, “Slow down and come unto Me”. Slow down and know that He is God. We don’t only go to the Lord when we have a problem, we shouldn’t - We don’t only go to the Lord with a shopping list. Your loved one would be so disappointed if that was the only time you came to them, when you had a problem. Jesus created you in His own image. You know what for? To have fellowship with you, to spend time with you. He wants to talk with you and He wants you to talk with Him. He just wants you to enjoy Him and He wants to enjoy you. Do you really believe that? I do. Its been my lifestyle now for 40 years.
I want to tell you that the Lord does not need us. No, He can do anything He wants by Himself but He wants us because He loves us and He wants us to have fellowship. How many times, when Jesus walked on the earth, did He not say to the disciples: “Come aside, come and rest awhile. You haven’t even had time to eat today. You have been praying for the sick and taking care of the needy. Come and sit quietly with Me. I want to have quality and quantity time with you.”
Start doing it today and it will change your whole outlook on life. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
