Whoever

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 3rd of November, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:13

Whoever!

Now, I looked up the Oxford Dictionary to find out the literal meaning of the word, “whoever”. It means “any person”, that’s right, “anybody”. It means “regardless of who”. "It is used for the emphasis instead of “who” in questions like, “Who is that?” It means “who” when talking about the individual. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord!

In Luke 8:2, seven demons were cast out of Mary Magdalene. She was a woman of ill repute, she had a bad reputation and yet Jesus saved her. Why? Because she called upon Him. In Luke 19:2, you will find the story of Zacchaeus. He was a bad man, he was stealing money from his own people. He was a tax collector and what happened? Jesus saved him. Why? Because he called upon Him.

What about Peter, the big fisherman? He was a blasphemer, he used to curse and swear. He was the leader of the pack. In Luke 5:8, when he realised who Jesus was, he said,

“Lord, depart from me for I am a sinful man.”

You might say today, “Is there any hope for me?” Of course there is! The Lord says, “Whoever”. That is why I love Him so much. He saved me. You see, Jesus is not interested in our background. He is not interested in how well-educated or how poorly educated we are. He is not interested in whether we have a good reputation or a bad one. He is not interested in whether we are successful or whether we are a failure. He said, “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Everyone who says, “Help God!” gets help. Anyone who says, “Lord, please rescue me”, experiences new life. Maybe today you have been through an ugly divorce, maybe your business has gone down, you owe people money, and you can’t pay them back. Maybe you have been told by the doctor there is no hope for you because you have an incurable disease. Maybe today you are in a state of depression. The Lord says, “whoever calls upon My name shall be saved.”

Now, I want to pray with you. I want to pray slowly so you can pray with me. Shall we pray together?

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, through the power of your Holy Spirit, I am calling upon You today. Please save me, save me out of my situation. I am so sorry for dropping the ball. I am so sorry for letting You down but today I want to give You my life completely, with all my problems, with all my sin, I call upon You today. Please save me, a sinner, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Have a wonderful day.
God bless you and goodbye.
