The Least of These

And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.
— Matthew 25:40

Those are Jesus’ words - You know, sometimes the true test of our love for Jesus is to serve people who can give you nothing back in return. It is from a transformed heart that we serve the very least of our brethren. It is the way of a truly grateful Christian because Jesus said, “inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”

Straight away I think of the Bible translators. I have such huge respect for these wonderful people. They go to a foreign country, often they can’t speak the language and they sit in the jungle, the bush with no running water or lights and they translate the Bible into the local language. There is no physical reward for their work but they are doing it "as unto the Lord."

I clearly remember, going to the maximum-security prison in Pretoria, our capital, not knowing what to expect but what a surprise we got. We had a reception that was so warm - These men were waiting with great anticipation to meet us. The response to the Gospel was incredible.

These men wanted to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. And they also knew that we had no ulterior motive because we had nothing that we could give them apart from the Good News of Jesus Christ and a Bible. They had absolutely nothing to give us back in terms of material possessions. But wow - Did God bless us that day... I will never forget it as long as I live!

As we walked into that huge room the prisoners were all sitting in their orange uniforms, waiting to hear the Gospel. Then a male choir, maybe forty or fifty men strong, came to the front. With no instruments, they started to sing hymns as I have very rarely ever heard before in my life. I have been to Nashville Tennessee in the USA, I have heard top Gospel singers, wonderful men and women of God but never had I been moved to tears like I was that day when these men sang from their hearts. Jesus was there in Spirit and I will never forget it!

Go out today and bless somebody who can’t pay you back. Go and bless a person who really needs your love.

Have a wonderful day and God bless you.
